Installation and personalization of open source e-learning software

The growing importance of open source software is evident to everyone nowadays. From Firefox, the browser which has successfully attacked Internet Explorer's monopoly, to the GNU/Linux operating systems, which is adopted and advertised by industry giants, to the Open Office suite, which is free but efficient and functional, open source software is everywhere.

It is getting very important also in the field of e-learning. The most interesting open source platforms are currently Dokeos/Claroline and Moodle. Both allow teachers to create courses complete with lessons, course programs, calendars, announcements, exercises and multimedia content. Both of them, thanks to the availability of their source code and their GPL licence, can be personalized to integrate almost seamlessly in existing systems (for example, for user authentication), and can be extended with custom-made tools.

Thanks to the experience gained in several years of work, and its deep knowledge of the LAMP (Linux - Apache - MySql - PHP) programming environment, HCE is the perfect partner for the installation and customization of these platforms both in dedicated servers and in normal commercial hosting plans, for the personalization of tools and options, and for the training of both teaching and non-teaching personnel.
