Web design

The 'craftsmanship' of the web

HTML was born as a simple language meant to publish academic reports, and was later extended to meet the growing demands of the Internet's public. The browser wars (remember Netscape?) and the battles for the definition of standards has left us with a web made of non-standard sites which look different in every browser, and whose source code is often created with automatic software which produces redundant tags and needlessly complex layouts.

HCE creates websites 'by hand'. Our code is written piece by piece in order to avoid redundancies and the unnecessary use of tables for layout, and we make sure it's compatible with the vast majority of current and legacy browsers, as well as different monitor sizes (from the now obsolete 800x600 monitors to the big flat screens that are more and more popular).

We also strive to create pages that are as small as possible in terms of kilobytes, in order to reduce waiting times for the users and bandwidth costs for the owners. We use CSS-Liquid Design layout techniques that can make pages that weigh half of the average page, and are easier to maintain and update.
